Summer Free from Glasses Thanks to Laser Vision Correction

Back to Blog

Ready for vacation? Do you have your glasses, the glasses case, your contacts, solution, contacts case, extra contacts, prescription sunglasses and non-prescription sunglasses, prescription swimming goggles?

That’s a lot to remember. What if there was a way to eliminate this checklist and be free to relax, not just this summer but all the time!

Laser Vision Correction

Laser Vision Correction (LVC) is a great way to reduce or eliminate the hassle of glasses and contacts. There are several types of LVC.

The most popular LVC procedure in the U.S. is LASIK. With LASIK, the surgeon uses a laser to create a semi-circle flap on the cornea. This flap is carefully lifted and folded back, like opening a door, to expose the layer of cornea beneath. Another laser is used to reshape the cornea and correct your vision. The flap is laid back into place where it immediately begins to heal.

SMILE laser vision correction is another very common procedure around the world. During SMILE, a laser is used to make a very small 4mm incision on the cornea. Another laser passes through the top layer of the cornea to create a “Lenticule” piece of tissue underneath. The surgeon removes the lenticule through the small incision. Removing the tissue flattens the cornea to correct nearsightedness.

PRK also known as ASA (Advanced Surface Ablation) is another LVC procedure offered at Chu Vision Institute. During PRK, the surgeon uses a laser to remove cells on the top layer of the cornea, with no flap, to correct the vision. The eye is protected with a bandage contact lens as it heals.

LVC Results

All three of these options have similar results – correcting your vision. The healing time varies between the three, but you should be free to go back to your daily activities within a few days. The different procedures may be recommended for different people depending on your prescription, corneal thickness, dryness on your eyes, and other health factors.

No matter which of these options you choose, the results are permanent. The tissue won’t grow back or “wear off.”

You can go on living your life without having to pack an extra carry-on, just for your eye supplies! All you need now is a cute or stylish pair of sunglasses you can wear to the beach!
