In 1995, Julie was one of Dr. Chu’s first LASIK patients. Because she had such a positive experience, her daughter Ronnie received laser vision correction using the SMILE technique with Dr. Chu in 2017, becoming one of Dr. Chu’s first SMILE patients. They both can attest to how much laser vision correction has impacted their lives!

My name is Julie Fisher I had LASIK surgery done in 1995 by Dr. Chu.

And my name is Ronnie Fisher, I’m Julie Fisher’s daughter and I had my SMILE procedure done in May of 2017 by Dr. Chu.

I am a wallpaper hanger. I have detailed cutting, I have pattern matches, I have exact things that have to be lined up. When I was wearing contacts many things would happen dust would come in they would start sanding the ceilings and dust everywhere. If I would wreck a contact and not have one available to put in, I literally had to stop the day.

My vision was horrendous to say the least. I couldn’t see anything within six inches of my face without any kind of visual aid. I gotta say when I first got my glasses at the age of ten I was a ecstatic I was like, “Oh my gosh, this is so exciting! I’m getting glasses!” and then as the reality set in that this is a lifelong thing and you’re gonna have them for the rest of your life and you can’t see without them, then it started to set in that I definitely would like some kind of vision correction procedure done.

When I was 32 years old my husband gave it to me for my birthday. I went “Fantastic! Let’s go with it.” So away we went.

and then after seeing my mom get the procedure done that is really really what kind of set it like concrete in my mind that I seriously want to look into this and do this.

After I had LASIK, it was amazing. I could rub my eyes, I didn’t have to worry about rubbing away a contact and losing it, I didn’t have to worry about things dropping in my eyes.

Working as a nurse, I worked the overnight shift a lot and having naturally dry air in the hospital, my eyes were very very prone to dryness. So wearing contacts for any extended period of time was very hard on my eyes with this SMILE procedure that I had done the incision is so small that there is less of a chance of dry eye risk. I can go to work now and my eyes never get dry, I don’t have any more issues with that it’s-it truly, I mean that part of it has has made a huge impact on working and just life overall.

After looking back now that I’ve done it the amount of money that I saved by having prescription glasses, contacts, eye appointments, the time off work to go to these appointments and then the follow-ups – it was so much cheaper for me to do LASIK at that point. The 20 years honestly saved me a ton of money.

SMILE has changed my life. It has changed my life in ways that I can’t even express. Waking up in the morning and being able to see everything perfectly. It’s the coolest feeling ever to know that a procedure can be done on your eyes to help you see better is it’s very very very cool.
