Can you get LASIK if you’re farsighted?
Short answer: Yes!

Is LASIK better for Nearsightedness or Farsightedness?
LASIK is not more effective for nearsightedness or farsightedness. The laser is used to correct “refractive errors” (which cause your bad vision) in the same way for each treatment, but the results are different. When Dr. Chu is treating nearsightedness, the goal is to make the cornea flatter. To treat farsightedness, the surgeon makes the cornea steeper. Regardless of how your eyes are treated, the results from LASIK are permanent and the eye cannot “redevelop” the same refractive error.

Can I get LASIK if my prescription is really high or if I have astigmatism?
Some people think if their prescription is too high, or if they have astigmatism, they are stuck in glasses forever. This is simply not the case. With the advances in LASIK technology and the FDA approval of other LASIK-like procedures, we have helped thousands who have tough prescriptions to get out of their glasses and contacts.

What you are describing is a condition called age-related presbyopia, commonly referred to as “Over-40 Vision.” Typical farsighted individuals have trouble seeing up close due to refractive errors in their cornea, or the surface of the eye. Presbyopia actually affects the lens of the eye.
Once we get wiser in years, the lens of our eye begins to harden, and the muscles that control that lens start to weaken. The result is that our eyes can no longer flex enough to zoom in on objects that are close to us. As presbyopia progresses, we tend to hold objects at arms’ length to read them. Eventually our arms aren’t long enough, and we need reading glasses.
