Mark had cataract surgery in both eyes, but in one eye he had a Toric IOL, and in the other, he had Modern Refractive Cataract surgery. After wearing glasses for his entire life, he can finally see the world around him! He was so moved by his transformation that he also decided to donate to our Chu Vision Foundation.

my name is mark noreen and i had cataract surgery with both eyes well i’m currently transitioning from i have had a financial planning practice for the last 45 years and i’m now transitioning out into retirement or finding somewhere else something else to do. where i noticed not being able to see as well is i’ve got a hearing impairment and so i kind of rely on on closed captioning on the tv and i wasn’t able to read so that’s what kind of motivated me actually a couple years ago i was in and to a another primary care office and the doctor there said that i was looking for a new prescription and he said no prescription isn’t what you need you need to have cataract surgery so both my wife and i had cataract surgery here her one week before me and her issue was she was getting to the point where she wasn’t she wasn’t comfortable driving in the evening and with me it was more of a function of things were just kind of blurry and i wanted to be able to see again.
well i kept trying to readjust my glasses so i could see better in fact i i should probably tell you even today i wake up in the morning and the first thing i do is reach for my glasses and then i realize i don’t have to wear them anymore it’s kind of uh i’ve worn glasses that i was in second grade so i’ve always had to wear glasses enabled in order to be able to see when i went in and saw dr chu for my pre-operation interview i told him that i was so impressed with the staff that he’d put together and i think he said well we look for people like that that are professional and caring and friendly and he said once we find them they stand to stay here because they like the environment that they work in. one person you all have these badges that say “my passion is” and one person’s was pets and animals and i thought how can we not like somebody that likes pets and animals so i found everybody to be wonderful to work with well i think they guided me to the option that made the most sense for me which was i now need to use readers but other than that i can see mid-range and far away now i’m not very good at asking questions so i just assumed that what they were suggesting was the appropriate thing for me and and it’s worked out great
well everything is clearer and brighter. although my wife wants me to get clear glasses because she says i look naked without glasses on.
well i was thinking about dr chu and after i had the surgery i found out that he had a foundation and when i came in after the surgery i gave him a check and said um if you can do for other people what you did for me that would be great. yeah first time i’ve been hugged by a doctor he’s just told me what kind of guy he was.
it’s an institution that has a mission to help people see better well i had the advantage of having my wife go through this week before but i still had fears as i came in for the first surgery but then it went so easily and then for the next week i had to wear my glasses with one lens out and i could see out of one eye and not see that well out of the other one so i was more than ready to come back to have the second one done. i don’t know where i’m gonna go with the rest of my life but i do know i’m gonna be able to see
