Isaac was one of many in need during the Chu Vision Foundation’s mission trip to Fiji. Isaac is a father of four, and a brand-new grandparent, but he has never seen his granddaughter as he was nearly completely blind from cataracts. Because of this, Isaac was unable to work to provide for his family and was completely dependent on others to help him in his daily life.
One phrase Isaac said really resonated with the volunteers, “if you lose your thumb you can live, if you lose your eyes you lose your life.” Isaac had lost his life due to cataracts’ and the Chu Vision Foundation was able to give him his life back. After Isaac’s cataract surgery, he couldn’t stop smiling and expressing gratitude towards Dr. Chu and the Chu Vision Foundation. At his post-operative appointment, he began to tear up as he spoke of seeing his granddaughter for the first time, and again expressed his everlasting gratitude to Dr. Chu and the Chu Vision Foundation for giving him the greatest gift – his sight.
It costs as little as $25.00 to perform cataract surgery on one eye in underserved communities such as Fiji. For as little as $25.00 Isaac’s life was completely changed. With your participation in events like the See It Forward 5K, or with your donation and support, the Chu Vision Foundation is able to give the gift of sight to those like Isaac.
