hi I’m Nic Jacobs and I had LASIK with dr. chu 20 years ago and I’m Carrie Jacobs and I had LASIK 20 years ago as well for me I wanted to get rid of my glasses because contacts didn’t work for me I was teaching at that time coaching sports and playing sports with one young child and another one on the way so I think for me that was that was a drive to get rid of glasses well I was actually going to have LASIK first and then I found out that I was expecting our second child so I was a young mom you know I wanted to be able to take my kids to swimming pool and have you know just a really active lifestyle with them so I was really motivated to go out of my glasses and contact lenses when you have young children they tend to grab at your face grab your glasses and I remember my young children grabbing my glasses and pulling them off my face and so to have those removed from that temptation I guess for young hands was a great thing as well just that freedom of not having to worry about not being able to see in the middle the night to take care of my children or you know if someone’s sick I was just able to take care of them versus having to deal with grabbing for glasses and things like that so I think for me as a mother that was that was probably one of the most important reasons to have this done at an early age there’s so much life to live I’ve enjoyed playing basketball and coaching and getting in involved with the kids that I was coaching and to be restricted by glasses and contacts over the last 20 years I think not the right thing right make that choice early over the last 20 years having had the LASIK procedure we’ve had the opportunity to watch our children grow up without any distraction of glasses and contact lenses from swimming lessons to you know their sporting events to high school graduations and even camping and you know doing all these the fun activities that you do not having to you know think about the fact that we can see them and experience their their joy now and we like to travel too so without glasses and contacts you have much more freedom to travel across the country or out of the country not having to pack extra contact solution things like that or worry about what happens if I rip a contact or you could break my glasses now I can just travel we can just travel I can wear normal sunglasses exactly and as a marathon runner I mean for me I couldn’t imagine having to deal with contact lenses and for sure not glasses when trying to do all of the training and and the participating in those races ya yeah well I think for me any concerns that I had around having LASIK was just that a fear of the unknown of having a procedure done on my eyes is it going to hurt and will I be able to see and no issues at all yeah I don’t think I really had any reservation just having talked with Carrie about it and I think I was more scared about going to the dentist than I was about having surgery on my eyes I would say if you’re thinking about getting LASIK see if your candidate just go in for you know a complimentary screening see if you’re a candidate it’s better to know than not to know and wonder if you even can have this procedure done not everyone can but the vast majority of people are able to have this and if you choose to proceed it never gets old it never gets old
