In our 40s and 50s, we begin to experience the frustrating effects of blurry near vision. Everyday tasks, like sending text messages or reading a menu in a restaurant, can be a struggle, leading to frustration in our daily lives. In these cases, we end up depending more and more on pesky reading glasses to see up-close. At Chu Vision, we offer several options that can help eliminate or reduce your dependency on reading glasses and restore your close vision. Reading vision correction has presented women and men alike with the opportunity to put away their specs, reading and seeing with more ease than ever before. If you've noticed your near vision deteriorating or depend on reading glasses for everyday activities, contact our office in Bloomington, MN and schedule your consultation with world-renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Ralph Chu.

If you are over 40 or 50 years of age and have been diagnosed with presbyopia or have to rely on glasses to see up-close, then you may be a wonderful candidate for reading vision correction. This surgery is performed identically to a refractive lens exchange since the lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an intraocular lens. To find out if this treatment is right for you, you will need to attend a consultation with Dr. Chu or a member of his team to receive a comprehensive eye assessment. The type of IOL you receive will be decided during this appointment as well.

Cataract Lens Options

Reading vision correction is a surgical procedure designed to reduce or eliminate the need for distance glasses or contact lenses for people over 40. This procedure involves the removal of your natural lens and replacing it with an IOL. The intraocular lens you receive will depend on your unique needs. Some of the options we offer at our Bloomington, MN office are:

  • The Crystalens®, an accommodating intraocular lens (IOL), is designed to correct a wider range of vision issues following cataract surgery.
  • The Trulign® lens has an additional benefit of correcting astigmatism, as well as correcting vision at all distances.
  • The AcrySof® ReSTOR® multifocal IOL is designed to help patients see in multiple ranges of vision (from up-close to far away) following cataract surgery.

After your surgery, you will need to return to our office in Bloomington, MN for at least one checkup. As your eyes begin to heal and recover, you will notice a stark improvement in your ability to see up-close and read without glasses. Following your procedure, Dr. Chu or a member of his team may prescribe anti-inflammatory eye drops to reduce your chance of developing an infection. You may notice some mild discomfort as you heal, but this sensation will diminish on its own after several days.

Just because age-related vision loss is natural and expected doesn't mean you have to deal with the repercussions. At Chu Vision Institute, our highly skilled team of eye doctors is thrilled to offer revolutionary care to men and women aged 40 and over who have grown tired of relying on reading glasses to see up-close. Reach out to our team in Bloomington, MN to find out if reading vision correction is the right choice for you.
